VA Aid and Attendance or Housebound benefits provide monthly payments added to the amount of a monthly VA pension for qualified veterans and survivors. If you need help with daily activities or you’re housebound, find out below if you qualify.

To be eligible, you must have served at least 90 days on active duty with at least 1 day during wartime. Under current law, the VA recognizes the following wartime periods to decide eligibility for VA pension benefits:

  • Mexican Border period
  • World War I
  • World War II
  • Korean Conflict
  • Vietnam War era
  • Gulf War

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) proposes to revise its regulations that govern the VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC). This rulemaking would propose improvements to PCAFC and would update the regulations to comply with the recent enactment of the VA MISSION Act of 2018, which made changes to the program’s authorizing statute. These proposed changes would allow PCAFC to better address the needs of veterans of all eras and standardize the program to focus on eligible veterans with moderate and severe needs. Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of home care services are available for veterans?
Veterans who need help with everyday things can get home care. This means someone comes to their house to assist them. Some veterans can also get special care at home if they have long-term illnesses or disabilities. This could involve things like nurses or therapists visiting. We make sure each veteran gets care that is just right for them and what they need.
How do veterans qualify for home care benefits?
Eligibility for home care benefits depends on factors like military service history, medical needs, and financial status. We can assist in determining eligibility and guiding veterans through the application process.
Can a veteran receive home care if they are not fully disabled?
Yes, veterans do not need to be fully disabled to qualify for home care. Many VA programs offer assistance to those who need help with daily tasks due to age, illness, or mobility challenges.
What is the VA Aid and Attendance benefit, and how does it help pay for home care?
The Aid and Attendance benefit is extra money from the government for veterans who need help with everyday tasks like bathing, dressing, or eating. This extra money can be used to help pay for someone to come to the veteran’s home and provide care. We can assist families with the paperwork to apply for this benefit so they can get the help they need.
How can I apply for VA-funded home care services?
Veterans or their families can apply for home care benefits through the VA by applying along with medical and financial documentation. We offer guidance to help veterans complete their applications correctly and access the care they deserve.
